HACKENSACK, NEW JERSEY – JP247: From Pre-Med to a Practicing Physician

Non-Global Course: While not considered a ‘global experience,’ some courses take place off-campus! The following course will be offered Jan Plan ’25:

What does it take to get into med school, attend and then practice medicine with a focus on community medicine and social determinants of health? This Jan Plan is for first year and second year Colby students who are first generation and or low income or would not otherwise have access to this kind of opportunity. The program works with the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine in Nutley New Jersey for the first two weeks of Jan Plan and takes place on campus for the second two weeks of Jan Plan. While in New Jersey we meet with a variety of practicing physicians in a number of settings, get exposure to some hands-on clinical skills, learn more about getting into and attending medical school etc. On campus we will be completing a research project and proposal related to health disparities and social determinants of health.
