INTERN, INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

PAY GRADE: S2
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the supervision of the Manager of Information Technology and Project Manager of Information Technology.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.
POSITION CLASSIFICATIONS: The position of IT Support Intern in the City of Stow is temporary, seasonal employment, is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act, and is not included in a collective bargaining agreement.
- PURPOSE: Assist the Information Technology team with technical support tasks, basic systems maintenance, and user assistance to gain practical experience in municipal IT operations while supporting the department’s objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide basic technical support to city employees for hardware and software issues.
- Assist with the installation and configuration of computer equipment, peripherals, and software.
- Help maintain inventory of IT equipment and supplies.
- Assist with documentation of IT processes, procedures, and system configurations.
- Support the network team with basic network maintenance tasks under supervision.
- Assist with user account management and directory maintenance.
- Help prepare training materials and assist with user training sessions.
- Participate in testing new software applications and updates.
- Respond to routine service desk requests and escalate complex issues appropriately.
- Assist with data backup procedures and verify their completion.
- Support the implementation of departmental projects as assigned.
- Help with basic troubleshooting of hardware and software problems.
- Assist with system updates and patch management under supervision.
- Organize and maintain technical documentation and user guides.
- Research new technologies as directed by supervising staff.
- Maintain compliance with all City of Stow city-wide and departmental policies, work rules and procedures.
- Regular, reliable, predictable, and punctual attendance is an essential function of the position.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university program in information technology, computer science, management information systems, or a closely related field.
- Must have completed at least one year of undergraduate coursework.
- Must possess basic knowledge of computer systems, networks, and common software applications.
- Must demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees and the general public.
- Familiarity with Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office applications, and basic networking concepts.
- Must possess and maintain a valid State of Ohio Driver’s License throughout the term of employment.
- Must be able to work day hours during summer months, with occasional flexibility as required.
PREFERRED:
- Experience with IT helpdesk operations.
- Previous work experience in municipal or county government.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT: Tools and equipment used in the performance of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: personal computers; Client Server; LAN; IP phone; copy machine and fax machine; and mobile phones.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
