James Ffrench ’85 is a managing director of Beauvais Carpets in New York. At Beauvais, Jim is responsible for the buying, researching and sales for all antique and vintage rugs and textiles, designing and overseeing production of Beauvais’ exclusive line of contemporary hand-made rugs and tapestries as well as the day-to-day management of the business and sales staff. Prior to joining Beauvais, Jim was an independent dealer, consultant and appraiser for Eastern and Western hemisphere rugs and textiles for private individuals, auction houses and museums. Other past work experience includes serving as a vice president and head of Christie’s rug department and as a senior specialist in the rug department and manager of the vintage automobile department at Sotheby’s New York.
After graduating from Colby, Jim attended the Sotheby’s Works of Art course in London, after which he trained in the apprentice program at Sotheby’s New York.
Jim also currently serves on the Board of Governors of the Colby College Museum of Art and as an appraiser for PBS’ The Antiques Roadshow.
